Indrahar Pass

Overview

The Indrahar Pass marks the boundary between Kangra and Chamba districts, offering a breathtaking view of the majestic Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh. This trek ascends from 2,875 meters to 4,425 meters, showcasing picturesque hamlets along the way. The trek is challenging due to its steep ascents and rugged trails. Trekkers are rewarded with stunning vistas of the Kangra Valley at Triund, opportunities to camp near the Laka glacier, and panoramic views of the Dhauladhar range from the pass.

Getting There

The trek begins in McLeod Ganj, a well-known hill station celebrated for its tranquil atmosphere and rich Buddhist culture. McLeod Ganj is easily accessible by state and private buses from major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. The nearest airport is Kangra Airport, located 20 km away, and the nearest railway station is Pathankot, 85 km away.

Highlights of the Trek

Triund Hill: A lush, green hilltop offering stunning views of the Kangra Valley. This 8-9 km trek from McLeod Ganj is beginner-friendly.

Snowline: Located 3-4 km from Triund, this spot offers even better views as you pass through mixed forests of deodar, oak, and rhododendron.

Laka Glacier: A 2.5 km trek further from Snowline leads to this base point of the Indrahar Pass. The views here are surreal, especially the close-up of Moon Peak, which gives an almost otherworldly feel.

Lahesh Caves: These natural caves are where Maharishi Lahesh meditated. The spiritual vibes are palpable, with stunning views of Laka Glacier below and peaks like Arthur’s Seat (4,525m) and Moon Peak (4,666m) in the distance.

Famous Peaks: Arthur’s seat (4525m) Moon Peak (4666m) etc can be glimpsed.
